Mjolk Spring/Sumer 2010 Collection

From the Mjolk s/s 2010 Lookbook. I'm always a fan of Mjolk's collections, as the consistently deliver fashion forward pieces in great fabrics, cuts and colours. It seems that everything really is getting more relaxed now and getting away from the super skinny jeans, we have been seeing less and less skinny jeans on the catwalk over the past year or so. For me this collection looks fresh with a classic Scandinavian cool to it, quite reminiscent of Acne. My personal favourite look out of these is the outfit with the loose off white top and grey marl pants.

Cool Bits - Windows Vista "Home Entertainment" Adverts

Suggesting Windows Vista is also for "home entertainment". Very clever and a great concept. I guess they have to try and compete with Apple some how. It works for it, though it won't make me want a PC.

Vogue China August 2009

These images are from the latest edition of Vogue China, featuring model Eniko Mihalik and shot by Greg Kadel. I've always saved and collected editorials from magazine and the internet and stuck the down in my scrap book. I know I could just save them to my laptop but it's much easier for me to have them all in one place when I'm searching for inspiration. I just love everything about this shoot, but mainly the location. I don't know where this was shot but it looks quite amazing. I wish Vogues from other countries were more widely available, from what I've seen Vogue Italy and France are available in Borders but I'd love to get my hands on some more Eastern copies.

Latest Purchase - Linda Farrow Sunglasses

More finds from ebay, this time in the form of a vintage pair of Linda Farrow wayfarers from the mid 1980s, lets hope they suit me. If not it's not the of the world as they cost me £10. I guess I would just sell them on again.

They don't beat this pair of Linda Farrow Projects x Damir Doma wayfarers but as if I could afford the price tag. Available at Oki-ni for £165.

The Satorialist & his new book

This guy oozes cool. I'm sure a few of you have already come across this images from The Satorialist, summer doesn't get much better than this. To actually see this look pulled of well on the street is instantly going to bright up your possibily gloomy day. Are jazzy pants a new micro trend or are they always bubbling under, I see plenty of kooky girls in them but not so much men.

The release date of The Satorialist's first book has been announced as 12th August US and early September for the rest of the world. Pre-order your copy now at
Amazon UK or Amazon US

MAC - Face Art

I stumbled across this image by MAC whilst shopping with Hollie in manchester last night, it was used as a backdrop in the concession shop in Manchester. I couldn't ignore this images and I had to go on the website straight away and save it. Hollie later told me that they send out images of this caliber on their weekly emails. Now I've never really been into make-up so much really but I find them inspiring, especially if I have to do any styling and some point. They could come in handy.

Topshop A/W 09 Preview

Here's a sneak preview of the Topshop A/W 09 Collection entitled "Marianne". Topshop always seems to come up trumps when it comes to A/W collections, as I remember the "Wonderland" and "Boudoir" collections from last year being a big hit and pushing the boundaries when it comes to high street fashion. In terms of affordability there isn't many other high street shops that matches the variety, design and fit with a strong fashion forward sense of thinking. The may borrow elements from hi-end designers but after all that is the point of high street fashion. Least the UK based design team put thought into each collection and are well and being taken more seriously now their Topshop Unique range is a fully fledged member of the catwalk elite.

Im excited to see which of this stuff our Topshop receives in the deliveries later on this year, though I do wish Topman would step up their game and start pushing more innovative designs and trends. The should stop looking at "indie music" for inspiration, I'm sick of seeing check shirts, basic cardigans, boring non-skinny skinny jeans, and cartoon t-shirts. Come on guys, expand a little!

"Cool Bits" - Black Hole Music College

This is the Black Hole building at the Senzoku Kaguen College of Music in Tokyo. All I can say is a wish my uni building looked like this, I can only imagine that nobody can be in a bad mood at this campus. The colours used are so punchy, it's such a simple idea, even the fonts used on the wall is fairly basic but just so well executed.

The building itself features a recording studio, multimedia studios and specially design practice studios for jazz, pop and
rock music. The brains behind this design is Architech and Designer, Naoki Terada.

Reiss 1971 captsule collection - Competition

"1971 Reiss" is the new capsule collection from the hi-end high street store. The collection is mostly focused around denim that you would ususally expect from the high street stores mainline collections, which hints that it will be aimed at a slightly younger customer base that at current.

To celebrate this new collection, Reiss have joined forces with Dazed & Confused to create a t-shirt competition. The idea of a t-shirt competition os so that their new jeans have the perfect partner. The brief is to take "1971" and interpret it however you wish, they urge you to look at the year for inspiration but create something that is fashion forward and not just another band t-shirt.

To help everyone get started Dazed have commissioned a few artists to come up with their own designs. Here's my favourite: by Graphic Artist Damien Poulain, inspired by the missions into space and the astronauts playing golf on the moon.
For more information about entering the competition and details visit Dazed Digital or go straight to the new 1971 Reiss site.

Is anyone inspired to enter? I would but my graphics skills aren't up to much.

Jil Sander x Uniqlo

Jil Sander x Uniqlo - I can't wait for this collection, the queen of minimal meets high street affordable chic. I just hope it sticks around long enough for me to grad a few bits. I'm also drooling over the logo and font, is that sad?Narrr. Release date is still up in the air but it will be this Autumn.

What's everyone else thoughts?

The diy esthetic is really in the swing of things as the moment, with Izzy from The Dandy Project recreating shoes and shirt a la McQueen (click here and here) and this brown bag which featured recently on the new Jak&Jil for POP Magazine. Relaunch of POP Magazine you say, oh boy yes!

The use of clashing patterns and colours is accompanied with lots of layers, practical accessories and technical fabrics.

Welcome to the Maison Martin Margiela

If anyone has been on the Maison Martin Margiela website they will have seen just how simple a site needs to be to be truly innovative. I just love this, it's made up of very simple text, folders and sub-folders (or folder tree) just like all computer were like, back in the day.
Opening page - "enter"

Home page image

Folder Tree - Back in the day

Maison Martin Margeila site - 2009

Text is laid next to image inspiration which by clicking on opens their seasonal collections including accessories. It really is beautifully done, I'm such a geek for things like this but it works so well. None of this destracts you from why you came of the site in the first place, collections are easy to find and scroll through, where you can see all the detailed shots you like.

Collections are accompanied with images, to show their current colour palette for each collection or is it just them having fun with photography?

When you click on the "stores" you are left looking at a list of stockist within each country and am image of footprints in white paint. These little quirks just make everything much more appealing, as a fashion promotion student this is so inspiring for me.

Anyone who is interested in design or fashion should check out their site here for a full tour of the site and collections. Maison Martin Margiela is available to buy at Oki-ni.com
