Fashion Weeks A/W 10/11 - Menswear Shows

Burberry - Liked most of it, didn't push any boundaries but it worked well together. Minus the boots.

Bottega Veneta - Future Teddy Boys, loved the hi shine shows with white socks.

Dries Van Noten - Exquisite tailoring from what we expect, highlight was the clashing raglan sleeves on shirts and outerwear.

Romain Kremer - The oddball, but that's why I liked it, Robocop meets circus clown.

Lanvin - One of my favorites by far, world traveller chic. Can't keep my eyes off the technical fabrics and billowing silhouette

Hermes - I want it all please, time to try the silk scarf vibe again.

Paul Smith - Taking on a darker approach this season, still had plenty of character, with slight Victorian undertones. Ps capes are everywhere.

Tim Hamilton - Another futuristic offering, the way that blazer is cut on the right is just excellent. Leather trousers made cool?!

Rick Owens - Super stripped down and minimal, with the classic white being replaced with muted browns and such. Works for me, especially the longer skirt type shape. Should I?

So what is your top pics? Lots of interesting small details, as always with menswear, that's why I love it. Lots of small trends emerging, what do we think we break through to the mainstream?

Wooyoungmi A/W 09/10 Collection

I'd describe this collection as a futuristic Soviet uniform. The detail on some of the outfits is brilliant. Fabrics, cuts, colour palette, accessories, it's all working for me and works together without looking like there's too much going on.

Click to enlarge, make sure you check out the amazing shoes. Now I'm off to buy some material to wrap around my shoulders....

Clothes for all types of Folk

Another email that caught my eye today was the weekly newsletter from oki-ni, but for the first time it actually made me smile. The email was all about "Winter Warmers", which included lots of woollies from Pendleton, Jil Sander and Folk.

What made me smile so much was the Folk "People" cardigan, I you can guarantee if anyone saw you on the street or at the shops wearing it, it would instantly make them smile too. Setting of a snowball effect of smiles, from person to person as you go about your regular day. I am all for this!

The Folk cardigan in question, in bright red with little characters circling the bottom of the sleeves.

Close up of the sleeves, I love how childlike and non-descript they look. Gives them a playful cartoony feel.

You can also snap yourself up a matching "People" scarf, just imagine the joy on people's somewhat usually glum Winter faces.

London Fashion Week

Now, like most people in the fashion world, I have been totally obsessed with all what's been going on, on the catwalk's over the past few week. Especially London Fashion Week, at the MAN shows. Twitter has been going mad and the morning of the MAN show I was over ridden by all the tweeting going on by fellow bloggers, Cillian Male Mode, Steve Style Salvage, Ian ASOS Tweets, Elliot and Steve Buckstyle and even Topman had Steve from Style Salvage tweeting on their behave. I'm going to leave the review of the shows down to the expect this time, because I don't think I can do them justice, may favourite coverage came from Fashion165, they were reviewing each show as it happened on their blog, even the much smaller shows. They were pulling off some great coverage of the street style that was going on too.

I do feel like I'm missing out being so far up north but it was weird, I felt so close to it at the same time because of twitter. The world really is getting smaller. Still well gutted I didn't get to see the MAN show, Carolyn Massey's show look superb.

One thing that caught me eye was some of the more avant garde shows like Ziad Ghanem’s collection, in collaboration with Firetrap, entitled "Maiden Britain’.

Not for the faint of heart, this collection at first glance is mostly unwearable, but when you break it down it really isn't that insane. Ok some of it is a bit wacky but some of the details are really inspiring, like the also jodhpur/ plus 4 esque jeans, sleeveless sheer shirts, union jack totes, 80s style patterned work-out pants and spike denim accessories (see more close up images at Vogue UK ). All looks weren't complete without Creepers, the crepe soled, stacked shoes, which were all courtesy of T.U.K. All the ones you would expect features, including leopard print, black and white and the tres style hi-shine all black ones.

A pair of creepers is still a high priory on my wish list, Susie Bubble sure is getting a lot of wear out of her. Crepe soles seem to be big business the a/w with offerings from Emma Cook at Topshop and Alexander Wang all doing the rounds at the moment. Are you going crepe the a/w?

Paul Smith Spring 2010 Collection

Paul Smith's latest collections is based on Congolese dandies called the Sapeurs. Paul Smith is set to release a book is about these guys called "Gentlemen of Bacongo". The books about these immaculately dressed gents who live in the run down streets of Congo. They remind me of the SPIVS, who romed the streets of London in the early 1940s selling anything you wanted at knock of prices. Best describes as the first wheeler-dealers.

As you can see the first outfit has been recreated from the image of the front of the new book;

Filled with clashing colours, stripes, animal prints and some abstract this was a mixture of everything and more. The collection also features so creative styling ideas with cardigans been slung off the shoulders and belted, tops were wrapped, bandage-like around the top of arms and mish-mash patterned were teamed with gentlemanly brogues. This collection has really impressed me and is a bit of an eye opening.

There's lots more going on at New York/London Fashion Week right now, some other of my favourites have been Marios Schwab, Todd Lynn, Marc Jacobs and 3.1 Philip Lim. More reviews to come soon.

The book is now going on my wishlist.

I'm not 100% sure what I think about these, I do quite like the weird sinister undertones, or are they just messing with us? I'm 100% about the colour palette though and styling though. Meow.

Yey or ney?

I Love COS

Since visiting COS in London it is now my new favourite shop, I wish I could have got my hands on the hooded cape jacket (3rd look) but it isn't out for a few weeks and is limited edition so they say. A/W 09 is looking great for COS. I didn't end up buying anything but just wait till next time.

Burberry Autumn 09 Timepieces

I don't make a habit of blogging about uber expensive watches that I clearly can't afford or just not really into, I'm not sure if that will come with ages but I just don't really see the appeal of spending thousands of pounds on a metal bracelet that tells the time. I usually go for a bit of cheap and cheerful or something that looks quirky, though my taste is changing year by year. Currently I'm wearing a brown leather and dull gold faced Marks & Spencers watch. The thing I dislike the most about expensive watches is the bling factor and how many diamonds something is packing.

But then what pops up in my inbox yesterday certainly did catch my eye, Burberry's selection of watches for the Autumn 09 season.

Not to blingy - check!
Luxary leather straps - check!
Striking clock face - check!
Masculine frame - check!
Just the right amount of tech-i-ness - check!
No Burberry check - check!
This one is screaming cool Fench guy drinking coffee and smoking next to a river scenario.
For me this one has a James Bond feel to it, it's the mixture of dull silver and perforated black leather strap.
This one is my favourite (just over the 2nd one), for the main reason is that I wear a lot of brown/tan accessories and the face sort of reminds me of a sun dial. The larger perforated holes of the strap give it a slightly more sporty feel too.

Ranging from £325 - £395 a pop they are small prices in what you can expect to pay for more established watch companies, but these are affordable and accessible for people like me . I mean I am a student but I know if I will use it for 15+ years then it's worth it.

*Note to self* this is definitely something to think about, after all I am nearly 24!

Topman a/w 09 Collections

Topman gets over shadowed by its big sister Topshop pretty much 100% of the time, when it comes to it, Topshop seems miles ahead with its designs, direction, trends and variety. You may remember the post on Topshop's a/w collections here. When I think of Topman on the whole I think of check shirts, cartoon t-shirts, pumps and not to great materials but for once I think Topman is taking big steps in the right directions with its 3 a/w collections.

Heritage trend (currently doesn't have a name):

Currently un-named this trend is hands down the finest trend I have seen Topman come up with (do they have a new Creative Director because this is way above what I was seeing in the shops last winter?) First off, I love the styling and the photographs for this, well thought and it's good to see that they are not just re-hashing the same old crap every winter just because their core customer is either blokey blokes who want " I Love Beer" t-shirt or students who just want baseball t-shirt and ironic boxer shorts. This trend influences seem to be Englishness with a touch of 80's rebellion against the over-the-top Club Kids like The Smiths (Not directly but I'm thinking the flowers, button down shirts and loafers). Top picks from this trend are all the heavy wool trousers, double breasted cardigan tucked in, fitted Pea coat and bulky Penny loafers.

"Wilderness" trend:

This trend is par for the course in turns of Topman's winter trends but with more of a grown up feel with a mixture of old American workwear ( I'm thinking "of Mice and Men"). Lots of cosy knits, clashing patterns and tailored jackets all thrown together but not working against each other. Not my favourite trend but here's my top pics: check blazer worn with oversized grey cardigan underneath and grey heavy wool trousers.

"Ziggy" trend:

This one slightly reminds me of some of Paul Smith's stuff from a couple of seasons ago, with the blazers, narrow jeans, bulky boots and leopard print, but in a good way. This seems a bit more interesting and considered than the usual "rock" inspired stuff. Buckets picks here are the purple velour jumper, red and navy paint blob shirt and the leopard print t-shirt.

So what do you make of these? Are they having a good effort at this Winter's trend, which is your favourite trend and which pieces can you see yourself wearing?
