The Blue Jeans

Levi's Commuter 511 - 12 months, 3 washes

Without a doubt the most worn type item of clothing in my wardrobe are jeans. Most people have their preferred brand when it comes to denim, factoring in fit, wash, quality and price; I lean towards Levi's. I've never really been in the position to splash cash willy nilly but denim is something worth spending a bit extra on. I picked up these for £79 last summer and they've have been worth every penny. Currently I have 2 pairs of jeans in rotation, these Levi's 511 from the Commuter range (above) and a pair of Nudie Thinn Finn. My peeve with the Nudie's is the pocket placement on the back, they're very low, making them look quite droopy. The Levi's fit perfectly.

The jury is still out on how you should wash your jeans; hot, cold, hand wash, machine wash, dry clean, soak before wear, wait donkey's years until they stink....it's hard to know which method to take. Lately I've had quite a few comments about how my Levi's have faded, simple answer is I wore them solid for the first 7 months (cycling a few times a week, which includes getting soaked frequently). When the time came I hand washed them in the sink using cold water and a bit of detergent.

The Commuter's are made using some techy stuff called "Nano-Sphere", which basically makes them dirt and water repellent. I'm not sure how the dirt bit works but it definitely makes the water run right off which is why they're perfect for cycling.

Pros - Water repellent // Reflective hem detail // Stretch for comfort // Lots of detail // High rise waist
Cons - Slight dye transfer // Knees wearing fast //

So let's talk about denim, I'd love to hear your thoughts - Are you loyal to a particular brand, what stores do you rate on the higshtreet, which method do you use for washing, how often do you wear them?

Levi's is so timeless, don't you think?
Oh no about the knees wearing fast, yikes! But if you're into that more worn and faded look than that works out :)

It's so nice to see men with slim fitting jeans. Really...those bagging pants that hang off the butt are just a big no, and I'm surprised it's still around!

  2. i could always count on my levi's as well. i have 4-5 pairs of different kinds but it's always levi's.

i can no longer wear my nudie jeans which i really like. it has a hole on the crotch area and my waist line shrink. :)

  3. I'm like you...wear them until I absolutely have to wash them! Which inevitably is every 3 weeks or so because I'm prone to spilling ;)

  4. I've been looking at getting a pair actually. I've been wearing French Connection for a while but I don't like how low the pocket placement is.

What I really want is a pair from their vintage range though as I don't really like many of the new style. Even 501s. I love the 1954 shrink to fit (http://www.mrporter.com/product/301144) and also thw '67 505 (http://www.mrporter.com/product/341405).

What do you think?? They're quite pricey, but may be worth an investment.

I agree with investing in a good pair of jeans. Having the curse of short legs only makes me buy high waisted jeans, they just suit my shape a lot better - plus I just think they look more snazzy! I generally buy the topshop brand as others are never as good of a fit.

My jeans are washed quite a lot because I like the tighter fit you get after a wash, but I have noticed they have faded a fair bit from first purchasing them. I'd love a dark indigo pair next!

  6. I'm very specific with what I want my jeans to look and fit like, so I don't really have brand loyalty - I just go with whatever brand has reasonable quality and fits my requirements! My favourite pair of jeans right now are black skinnies from UNIQLO, they were really cheap but I've never had a better fitting pair.

  7. You know how Hiro + I feel about good jeans. His recent pair were from a company called Kapital. Check 'em out. I think they suit your aesthetic demeanour.

  8. Have you tried looking more into raw denim? People buy those with the intention of breaking them in and not washing them until nice fades develop. I believe the Nudie pair you have now is raw denim.

Personally I'm in the no-wash camp, I wear jeans until they absolutely really definitely need to be washed. Good thing they're waxed denim and fit as well as I got them more than two years ago.

Hey that's not daft at all. I think 25 is seen as a major stepping stone. It's definitely a generation thing. You tend to look back at what your parents/grandparents lives may have been like when they hit 25 and in those days it was a hell of a lot easier and more of 'the norm' to do that then.

Don't worry, you'll get where you want to be or even better you'll exceed all expectations of what you have in mind!

  12. Ohh i'm one of those who wears jeans like 90% of the year. Always looking for the perfect fit and wash. Willing to pay an affordable price and maybe a little bit more. I have some levis that have last a decade, sadly, now they've become too expensive for my wallet :(
The washing, thats the millon dollar question. I do it when they start to fall of my but... hahah when they get like really stretch, that's the sign for mw to wash them an shrink them back to the natural shape. It could be two weeks or 3 months.

  15. I couldn't live without jeans. As a woman I have better luck with Gap/ Old Navy brand jeans (for fit) but when I find a pair of Levis that look good --I grab them--. Definitely check out the thrift stores when you are here, you can find mens Levis for super cheap! Also, mens Wranglers are pretty cool.

In my opinion, if all web owners and bloggers made goodcontent as you did, the internet will be a lot moreuseful than ever before.https://gunmetal.in/jeans/slim-fit/sky-blue-faded-jeans.html
