Japanese Toys
I spotted these really sweet Japanese play sets in Selfridges yesterday while we were ring shopping. There's a small "Toys from Japan" section which has set up shop next to Muji in the Trafford Centre branch, it's clearly for kids but there's some cracking designs in there. Above was a range of sets which all had magnetic pieces on the on the underside, like a modern tech version of Lego but without the clipable bits. All the cars were wind and go, plus there was loads of pieces to collect.
Clearly not just for kids...
What's the haps this weekend? I'm all set for a bike ride.

Skateboarding in the 1960s
Skateboarding is one of those things that I wish I'd learnt when I had the chance, when I was youngster. I'd love nothing more than to cruise around the streets on a set of wheels, but I've gone past the age of where it's socially acceptable for me to be practicing outside the front of my house. I just can't be doing that at 26, slipping around while the 16 year old nearly pros wizz past wouldn't be a great look.
These skateboarding young'uns from 1960s New York make me very envious. In all serious though I think they're great, from what seems like such a carefree and exciting time. The innocence of being a kid and mucking about is something I'm sure we all miss. These really must have been an exciting time, when a new craze hits when you're a kid it's all you can think about, I'm looking at your Pogs, Rollerblades and Tamagotchi!
Which big crazes do you remember (and secretly what to take up again!) with found memories?

Inspiration - Yayoi Kusama's The Obliteration Room
I love the way colour can have big impact on your mood and outlook for the day. You only have to look out your window on a sunny morning, it makes you want to get out there and enjoy yourself. Admittedly it is usually grey in England so you have to go to other lengths to put you in a good mood. I usually do it through socks but that's another matter altogether.
The concept behind Yayoi Kusma's Obliteration Room was to start of with a blank canvas, a completely white interior and let children lose on the room with colourful dots. Minute by minute the look of the room would change, creating a whole new experience each time you enter. I love the idea of it starting off so innocently and they BOOM, the whole thing goes crazy. The interactive installation is still on till next month, if you happen to be in Queensland.
So this weekend I will be trying to add a bit more colour to my outfits than usual. Give it a go!
In other news my blog was voted in Voucher Codes' Most Wanted Fashion 100: February 2012 Edition, in the menswear category. I'm in good company too, with some familiar faces.
