What I've Learnt From 4K Photography So Far

Since late September I've been working with Panasonic LUMIX as one of their UK Brand Ambassadors. It's taken me a few weeks to really get used to using a camera with 4K capabilities, but after a busy month I'm finally getting to grips with the LUMIX LX100.

You can read my introduction to 4K Photography here.

First I had a go at using the camera to document everyday life; be that when I'm grabbing coffee, catching up with friends, making cocktails or playing the guitar. But since those first few attempts I seem to have caught a buzz for using animals as my main subject. First we started playing around with Chole in the back garden, just to see what we could capture - it quickly became clear that the pooch was digging 4K as much as us! She's a natural, and I'll definitely be looking to capture more moments with that one.

I want to capture those natural, everyday moments that we can sometimes miss with regular photography. And that's the beauty of 4K Photo.

I've found myself headed down to the seafront more often too. It one of the only natural environment I can capture nature in our local area. Over the next few month I'm planning to explore some of our country's national parks, but for now Blackpool seafront is our direct access to nature (be that mixed with a lot of soggy chips, roller coasters and fancy dress...although they sound like good subjects too!).

So far I've found the camera really easy to use, but there's a few things that I'm still trying to work on. For example, I've not got fully to grips with the subject tracking system; this function lets you select a subject on the screen, then the camera follows it, keeping it in focus throughout filming. I used it for capturing the seagull above, shot-wise it turned out really well but I tried to shoot another bunch of seagulls and I kinda lost my groove. More practice needed!

On to another day, and I spent a good few hours looking for interesting subjects and testing out various settings (mainly the different focusing + tracking options). I stood and watched this chap + his dog for around 15 minutes, capturing some really lovely moments between the two. I'd loved to have got a few more close-ups of the dog, so that's on my to-do list this month.

4K Photo is really starting to put an extra spark into my love of photography, and making me see things from a different perspective. It's pushing me to try new techniques and search for subjects that I wouldn't have considered in the past. It does take a little more thought than I'm used to, but so far I'm really pleased with the results. So, where shall I take the LUMIX 4K next? Maybe it's time to take the LUMIX on a proper road trip...

New Addition + Giveaway Winner

Meet the new kid on the block, her name is Chloe and we'll be looking after her on Monday's and Fridays. We didn't take much persuading really. I'm not really one for thinking stuff is cute but this is just ridiculous. She's around 6 weeks old and the tiniest thing ever, just check out Hollie's fingers for a scale of reference. It's certainly going to make our days off more interesting!
