Espresso Martini Cocktail Recipe | 4K Photo

Just a quick continuation on from our Mint Julep recipe earlier this week, and we're moving straight on to the big guns – Espresso Martinis! While Mint Juleps are my current favourite shizzle of choice, the Espresso Martini is Hollie's current all star player.

Again, we decided to play around with the LUMIX LX100 4K camera, so you could get a real feel for the preparation process. Plus, I'm finding it really fun experimenting with different subjects - especially ones you can drink after!

The Espresso Martini is really simple to make, but we've also added a variation into the recipe, which gives it a slightly creamier taste. Both are worth a shot, just play around until you find the one you like. We took this recipe from Gennaro Contaldo.

Ingredients

- 2oz Vodka - We used Black Cow, but regular Smirnoff would work well

- 1.5oz Kahlua Coffee Liqueur - Try for Bailey's Irish Cream for a creamier texture

- 1 shot Espresso

- Ice

Instructions

- Chill Martini glass in the freezer

- Pour the Vodka and Coffee Liqueur into a cocktail shaker, over ice

- Add freshly brewed Espresso

- Shake for a good 30 seconds, making sure it's getting all nice and mixed up

- Pour the contents through a strainer, straight into the glasses
- Add a couple of Espresso beans on top, and enjoy!

Simple Mint Julep Cocktail Recipe | 4K Photo

We decided to take it easy on the chocolate front this Easter Weekend, and opted for spirits instead. Hollie picked up these awesome Indian copper mugs (yep, they're traditional used for Moscow Mules, but hey, we're rebels) last year, but we hadn't got around to using them, so we thought the long weekend would make for perfect timing.

Instead of regular photos we captured these images using the LUMIX LX100 4K camera, so you could get a real feel for the process. We took our own advice on board; playing around with the camera's settings, and adjusted accordingly. Really chuffed with the results! We've made a ton of Mint Juleps over the past few months, in fact, this is one of the easiest cocktail you could ever imagine. Plus, they get tastier as the ice starts to melt, so don't be put off by the first sip! We adapted the recipe from Laziz Hamani's Vintage Cocktails.

Ingredients

- 2 oz. Bourbon Whiskey - We used Woodford Reserve

- 1/2 oz. Simple Syrup

- 2 Sprigs of Fresh Mint

- A few Splashes of Angostura Bitters

Instructions

- Gentle bash one Sprig of Mint in the bottom of your glass, mixed with the Simple Syrup

- Add half of the Bourbon and fill with crushed ice

- Swirl the mixture until the outside of the glass frosts

- Add some more crushed ice and the remaining Bourbon

- Serve with the second Mint Sprig, add more Simple Syrup as needed

Capturing Split Seconds with 4K Photography

I've been trying to come up with fun ways we can use 4K Photography at home. The idea in this post sprang from a video I saw on Youtube; a fella climbs into a massive balloon, his mate then fills the balloon up with as much water as possible. The balloon soon reaches its maximum capacity, then BOOM! The human jello machine explodes everywhere - with each millisecond frame being captured using a hi-def super slow mo camera.

I wanted to try something similar - but much simpler - with the LUMIX LX100 camera, using 4KPhoto mode. After five minutes of trying to fit a box of confetti into a red balloon I was ready to roll. As the camera captures up to 30 frames per second I wasn't able to catch the split-second moment that the balloon exploded (assistance by Hollie's Mum!), but with a few tweaks of the settings, I'm confident I can get some punchier results next time.

Sprayway Waterproof Testing with 4K Photography

I'm having some colour issues, but you in either case the jacket is bright orange!

I had just one aim on one very cold Monday morning; to find out, if indeed, these outerwear brands are talking any sense when they says, "100% waterproof". Just a note, what you won't see in these photos – which have been extracted from a 4K Video, using the Lumix LX100 - is me hunched over, standing in a soggy puddle with not nearly enough substantial footwear on.

I received this brilliantly orange Sprayway Arete jacket a few months back, from Blacks Outdoors, and I've been putting it through its paces pretty much every day since. Working from home can leave me feeling slovenly and "sweatpants" at best, the only time I really head beyond the front door, on a typical day, is either to go to the gym, for a run or to pick up food.

The majority of my jackets can withstand a storm or two, but I've noticed this particular orange number seems to be the best out of the bunch, for everyday use. It's made from 100% Polyamide fabric, features taped seams, adjustable hood, and is a fully breathable. I wanted to push the waterproof test a little further than just a light shower, so armed with a bucket of water I did just that.

I gave it my best shot, and it's safe to say that the Sprayway Arete jacket is 100% waterpoof – ain't no water seeping through there. After trying to find faults with this jacket for the last few months I've given up. It may well be the perfect wet-weather jacket for me – be that for nipping to the shops, cycling, jogging or, if I'm led to believe, swimming...

Baking at Home with 4K Photography + Weekend Links

And when I say baking I mean, I just stand back while Hollie takes charge. I'm merely a spectator and taste-tester. I was having a play around with the old 4K Photography again last weekend, turning the subject on to these chocolately ginger snap marshmallows Hollie was whipping up.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that's starting to wind down for Christmas, but we'll still be posting a few bits over the next week.
