Inspiration on Instagram | Land Rover Illustrations by Guy Simpson

If we ever get a spare minute, Instagram is the place we go for some quick inspiration - and, fortunately, their algorithm keeps on throwing up gems that just demand a follow. Guy Simpson's Land Rover illustrations are a case in point. He's posted over 100 of these colourful beauties on Instagram, showing the ridiculous range of Land Rover modifications out there.

Armoured vehicles, safari vehicles, dune buggies, Post Office vans, and - literally - everything in between.

Take a look at Guy's Instagram account, and be sure to send us any examples of cool finds you've made. We'd love to see them!

Let's call this one teamwork. The beauty of Instagram is being able to discover + easily connect with people you may have never come into contact with. I started chatting with Photographer Husam Al-Deen just at the start of last December, and it wasn't long before we were sitting in a central London coffee shop, brainstorming ways in which we could collaborate together.

We got chatting about our love of sneakers, architecture, printed magazines + menswear so it was decided, we'd making something happen in the new year.

Did you know that Captain America - The First Avenger was filmed in Manchester's Northern Quarter? Marvel director Joe Johnston chose the location for its ability to be adapted to create a vibe of post-WWII New York City. It seems like an unlikely neighbourhood to choose - known for its independent clothing stores, record shops, coffee hangs and decent beer - but if you look closer, and start to look up at the architecture it all starts to make sense.

British footwear brand J SHOES recently contacted us with a project that instantly caught our attention. To celebrate the their 20th anniversary J.Shoes has created a limited edition collection with Northampton-based Sanders. We set ourselves the task to create a photo-story which represented the link between heritage + modern values.

The unisex collection features the Charlie brogue in two colourways. We decided the full-grain Chestnut, for its district use of tonal coloured grain leathers and green welting.

If we rewind the clock a few years you would have found me making a daily commute to Manchester city centre. My e-commerce role led me to taking short-cuts through many dark alleys, wet industrial side streets + Victorian-designed squares shaving minutes off my dash to make that 4pm cut-off time at the Post Office. Now, I find myself in those same side streets and dark avenues, taking advantage of the city's Northern character.

Staying true to my own personal style, I wore the beauties which have been entirely made in England, using Sanders' trademark crepe sole on the smart casual side of things, sticking to navys, greys + browns. Layering was essential for a bitterly cold + wet day; wearing the Laverham vest over my beige jumper by NN07 and classic oxford shirt by Asket, and tying in that American connection with slim fit strides by Dickies.

In around five month's time myself + Hollie will be heading over to Las Vegas to get married. It seems fitting that the J SHOES x Sanders collection has come along when it has - the perfect wedding shoes?

Let me know your thoughts on the shoes + if you think the setting was a good choice!
This post is in partnership with J Shoes. Thank you for taking the time to support the brands + businesses that make this blog happen.

Turbo Flyer Airplanes by Tait

Who knew four pieces of airplane-shaped wood could have such an impact on someone. It's these kind of fundamental toys that really capture a kid's imagination die-cast cars had a similar affect on me (but I just wanted to skip the "becoming-a-mechanic-to-learn-how-they-work" bit and go straight to designing cars that were only suitable for another planet...).

Nostalgia plays at role, but there's just something about these American-made Turbo Flyers by Tait that still feels super modern.

Exploring the Interior Design of Aesop London

Aesop Soho, London

Back in November I had the privilege of being shown around three Aesop stores in Central London. The focus of the day was not only on the carefully concocted skincare products, but also the design ideas behind each location. If you've ever visited more than one Aesop store you'll have instantly noticed that each is different from the next.

It's taken me so long to upload this post because this total wally (that's right, me!) managed to delete his whole memory card free from the original images. So last week I did the rounds once again, visiting Aesop stores at Covent Garden, Soho and Lamb's Conduit Street.

To be invited to spend an afternoon with Aesop's team, along with my buddy Oliver Hooson, was extremely flattering and exciting experience in itself. We got to hear about the humble beginnings of this Australian brand; their focus on creating environmentally friendly products since the mid 1980s, the theory of how natural ingredients work hand-in-hand with each skin type, as well as the brand's commitment to creating a unique retail experience, passion for architecture + why the small details matter.

Aesop Covent Garden, London

Each store has its own unique theme, with different designers and architectures being commissioned to create a memorable experience. From the Morroccan tiled flooring and moulded concrete of Covent Garden, the reclaimed enamel soap dish wall mounts of Soho, to the way the Lamb's Conduit Street store takes inspiration from its own history of being one of the cities most renowned bakeries the attention to detail is second-to-none.

Aesop Lamb's Conduit Street, London

In the Lamb's Conduit Street store you'll find a relaxation area in the back, which is free to be booked out for treatments, or to be used as the perfect chill out area in the summer months. If you have time to visit the store then take a look at the floor tiles they're the exact same ones which originally lined the actual street back in the day. And it's these small details that really make a difference, giving us more of a reason to invest.

The people of Aesop aren't in it to take over the market, but by following to their unique ethos, adapting to cusomter feedback and utilising meticulous design ideas they've won themselves many fans worldwide. I must say, I am definitely one of those people.

Thanks to Jess + the Aesop London team for taking care of us. If you're interested in hearing more about the design of each Aesop store then visit Taxonomy of Design.

Best of Packaging | Biggans Bocklingpastej by Bedow, Stockholm

Sometimes I find it hard to get started with work in the mornings, even after a coffee.

That's where Pinterest comes into its element. I type in a few likely words, like 'killer' and 'packaging', and up comes a ton of inspirational ideas that get my brain going.

Okay, so a smoked herring fishpaste might not be at the top of everyone's shopping list, but this beautiful design by Bedow of Stockholm will certainly make Biggins Bocklingpastej an eye-catcher on the shelf.

I love the way Bedow have thought of the small details too, like how the packaging will look when the box is half full and the pictures of the sea floor that are revealed once the book is empty.

We're always looking for inspiration for our Best of Packaging Instagram account. Found any great examples? Sent them to us!
