For the past few weeks I've been testing out the Panasonic Lumix GX7 dslr. I've only got it on loan for a short time so I've been taking full advantage of its capabilities. It's not often you get a chance to test-drive a swanky camera like this so I decided to take it to London with us last week. Hollie used it for the Murdock + Hackett Shaving Review, so you can get a proper feel for how it copes with movement.

Some of you may have already seen the shot I took of Hollie above, but I've included it again as it's my favourite image out of the lot. I thought it was worth noting that none of the images have been edited in any way, they're straight from the camera. It's a blogger's dream!

The main reason why I've got the camera on loan is because I'm taking part in a competition with We Are Social, with the chance of actually winning the Lumix GX7! I'll be entering one of the images from above into the competition so wish me luck!

I'd be interested to hear about what cameras you shoot with, slr, dslr, compact?

Murdock London at Hackett Spitalfields | Barber Service Review

Last week myself and Hollie took advantage of half term and headed down to London for a few days - We stayed at CitizenM on Bankside, as we loved the Glasgow hotel so much. If you're looking for a great hotel at a decent price then I'd recommend checking them out. On Monday morning we escaped the noise and took a trip down to Spitalfields. After a belly-full at Canteen (my new favourite place, thee best poached eggs!) we arrived at Hackett for my appointment at Murdock London

Murdock has featured on the blog a few times now (here, here), and knowing I was a fan of their products the team got in touch and invited me down to sample a Full Beard Re-Shape and Cut-Throat Shave. I'm not usually one for treatments but I figured I'd be in capable hands with these fellas so I thought, "let's give it a shot". This branch of Murdock is actually situated at the front of Hackett's Spitalfields store, a small but perfectly equipped space. Being one of Hackett's concept stores, I was eager to have a proper nose around - It's filled to the brim with menswear and paraphernalia from Hackett's own brand and selection of concessions, sourced from around the world.

I was warmly greeted by my Barber for the day, Sam, a proper gent. After a brief consultation we decided it was best for me to go shorter. I've had a bit of a beard for a few years now (admittedly not a very good one, it falls into the chin-fringe category. I wasn't blessed.) and I wanted a change, as I've started to grow sick of its inability be a full-on Eric Young.

Sam explained that if your beard can't quite live up to something out of Jonathan's 100 Beards, 100 Days, then you just have to make best with what you've got. Solid advice to be honest. After that I was perfectly happy for him to go nuts, after all Sam's the expert.

The first step was to trim my beard + mustache down, define a new shape and determine an appropriate neckline. We chatted about the Sam's passion for Barbering, the product range, blogging and how the partnership between these two British brands started. I was quickly put at ease and therefore thinking less-and-less about those bloody Sweeney Todd scenes. After 30 minutes of prep - Including immense smelling lotions, balms, creams and five tremendous minutes of the hot towel treatment, I was finally ready for a traditional Cut-Throat Shave!

Several Murdock products were used in preparation for the Cut-Throat Shave - Including the Daily Face Wash, Pre Shave Oil and Eye Serum. A weaker man would have drifted off by this point. After a heavy dose of traditional Shaving Cream (which I've been using for a couple of years and highly recommend for the smell alone), I was ready for the main event.

I'd never experienced a Cut-Throat Shave before, my only knowledge extends to old western films and memories of my late-grandad shaving in front of the mirror. As you can see from the images it's a very delicate operation and one which only a skilled person should attempt. Sam worked his way around my neckline, cheeks and back of my hairline in around 15 minutes and I didn't feel a thing.

Post-shave I was treated to another set of balms, oils and my choice of cologne. I went for the spicy  Black Tea, which has subtle hints of leather and tobacco. Bearing in mind this was my first experience of a proper Barber service, I was extremely impressed. My face never felt so good and I was left smelling pretty amazing for the rest of the day too. Just ask Hollie! Admittedly it might look as though I don't have much beard left but I can assure you it looked better than the previous knotty mess.

Before visiting Murdock the thought of having a grooming treatment had never crossed my mind, but it was an very enjoyable experience indeed. Sam's knowledge and passion for the craft was a big factor towards the overall experience, which I thought was worth mentioning. Combine that with Murdock's quality British-Made products + charming store interior and you're on to a real winner! Highly recommended.

Please note - I was offered this service for review purposes, all options are 100% honest and based on my own experience.

Ransom Holding Co. AW14

You may have seen SS14 Ransom Holding Co. on Hypebeast earlier this week, here I bring you a select few of the AW14 Ransom Holding Co. collection. A Canadian company, most famous for their collaborations with Adidas, Ransom originally began life as a destination retailer. It wasn’t until 2009 that Ransom set out into the world of design and creation of footwear.

SS14 was Ransom’s first own-brand collection, and that was a bloody good one. AW14 moves this on even further introducing new silhouettes and fabrications. My personal favourites being the Knitted and Feather Field Lites (above). The Knitted Field Lite features a custom knitted upper and finished with custom EVA molded footbed and ultra feather light EVA injected outsole. Beauties.

Ransom seem to have entered the market at the right time. In my opinion, people are slowly moving on from Nike and New Balance, who seem to have dominated the market for some time now. Although still huge brands that will never disappear – the fashion savvy consumer is likely to want something new to differentiate themselves from the ‘crowd’this is were Ransom steps in. After only having one season solo, Ransom are certainly in some amazing doors; Hypebeast Store (Online), Kith (New York), Foot Patrol (London), Bodega (Boston), Kickz (Munich), Sneakerhead (Moscow), Caliroots (Stockholm) and Nomad (Toronto) just to name a few.

With a store profile as impressive as that, Ransom are definitely a brand to keep a close eye on during the next few months. - Dan.

6th Birthday GIVEAWAY | Bluebeards Revenge Shaving Kit

Continuing on with our 6th Anniversary celebrations, this week we've hooked up with British shaving brand The Bluebeards Revenge! As we all know there's tones of shaving brands out there but this stuff is the real deal. When I said real I mean a) very well priced for the quality, without falling into the fancy-pants category, b) tried and tested - they won an FMH Grooming Award in 2013, and c) they like to inject a bit of humor into the art of shaving without compromising on quality of design and production.

I've had beard for years now but last week I decided to cut it short at Murdock London, with hot towels and cut-throat razor. Seriously stuff indeed, but it was a very enjoyable experience (more on that later in the week). So if you fancy having a go yourself, instead of using a crumby old Mach 3 then get yourself entered. The Bluebeards Revenge have provided one of their kits to get you get you used to a more traditional shave. Here's the full breakdown:

First Prize - The Bluebeards Revenge Kit, which includes - Scimitar Double Edge Razor, Traditional Badger Brush + Luxury Shaving Cream, worth a total of £70!

Second Prize - GQ x Hackett Limited Edition Notebook. I've added this one in for good measure, it's the from London Collections: Men 2012.

Realm & Empire Blogger Edit - SS14

Our friends at Realm & Empire are kicking the new Spring/Summer season off to a fresh start, with the launch of their new SS14 collection and a brand spanking new website. As with all of their collections, the story begins with a trip to the Imperial War Museum, along with a notepad, trusty camera, a passion for military history and trawling through archived photos. Each year the IWM allow Realm & Empire exclusive access to the extensive archives, which ensures all of their collections are accurately inspired by real life events and rich British Heritage.

The guys at R&E asked me to take part in their Blogger Edit Series, focusing on their SS14 Collection - Above I have picked out a few of my favorite pieces, which have just gone live on the site

Their merino wool hat is still keeping my head toasty from AW13 but it makes a nice change to be thinking about warmer weather and not getting hit by horizontal rain all day! Thank you to R&E for asking me to take part, click the links above to see more shots of the individual products.

I'm really keen on the floral shirt, which has been inspired by wartime wallpaper. What's your favourite piece from my SS edit?

Craig Frazer Illustrations + Weekend Links

Continuing on my current obsessions with Surrealism I thought I'd share the wacky world of Craig Frazier and his rather endearing + playful illustrations. Most of his work follows the life of a chap that never gets things quite right - there's always something a little off or out of place. I can relate to that!

We've been in London all week so I've slipped a little on replying to your comments and emails but don't you worry, I'm on that this weekend, sorry! I've got lots of share from our trip; we finally visited the Paul Smith Exhibition, I went for a share at Murdock's and we found a great bbq place, down in Soho. Expect some posts next weeks + a new giveaway too!

What's been going on with you folks then? I feel like I've got a lot to catch up on, so please do send me over some of your links from this week.
