Glasgow: CitizenM

Here's where we stayed in Glasgow, CitizenM. A 5 minute walk from Glasgow Central
First thing you see when you walk in is this awesome staircase
And then a plastic man on top
The lobby was like no other, super modern but in a really fun and clever way
MJ reading while you wait for the lift

One of a handful of lounging areas, they really do try and make your stay comfy and relaxing as possible
Computer area so you can swot up on where to go and what to see
This had to be our favourite area to chill out, it made me want an Eames Lounge chair
We were surrounded by design books, it's like they had a look at our Amazon wishlist before we came
Really liked this chair, I have no idea who it's by but it was dreadfully uncomfortable
More interesting chairs, this time the arms were made from leather straps, Pretty sweet idea
A never ending array of crazy chairs

One of the many personal touches CitizenM had, this way to our room then!
Each room had a quote above the door, which was a really nice personal touch
How can you not get a photo here, one of the many personal touches the hotel had to offer

In celebration of graduating me and Hollie planned to go away for a few days. We wanted to go somewhere affordable but far enough away for it to feel like a proper break. In the end I found CitizenM (the M standing for "Mobile") on Late Rooms, which had some great reviews and it looked like nowhere we have stayed before. We were not disappointed.

The hotel was about a 5 minute walk from Glasgow Central and is aimed a singles or couples wanting an affordable and modern place to stay. It was more than just that though, with amazing lounging areas, interesting decor, enthusiastic and helpful staff and lots of other small touches and quirks, it really was the most fun hotel I've ever stayed at.

The hotel falls into the medium sized bracket with 198 rooms, a large lounge and super slick bar/breakfast area. Each room features a gigantic bed which perfectly fits the width (for a 6"1 man this is rare to find in an affordable hotel) and everything was controlled by remote, the lightening, blinds, TV, alarm you name it. One of the best features was that you could change the colour of the lighting to suit your mood, it made me feel like I was in some super modern hotel in Japan. Sadly I didn't take any decent images of the rooms but check out Hollie's post for more. The lounge area was by far my favourite bit, with floor to ceiling bookshelves and windows, it couldn't be more relaxing.

If you're ever looking for somewhere interesting but affordable to stay I would highly recommend CitizenM.

That is one groovy place! I've never seen an hotel quite like it before, really looks like they cater for their clients needs. Usually I can't wait to get into my room but with that place I'd want to have a good look at those books! That mat is excellent also. I like how you would always remember that hotel if you stayed as most tend to have the same sort of vibe.

Thanks for the info about London, you've given me some hope!

  6. That unidentifiable lounge chair thing that looks like a floating beached jelly fish is actually an Eames design. Glad to know how uncomfortable it is, found one on the street the other day but was too big to carry home (plus the always scary bedbug issue...). Looks like a fantastic place to stay! Can't believe it's reasonable too! Will we be seeing more pics of Glasgow as well, or did you guys not leave the hotel (I can see why that could happen)?

I'm still undecided as to where to travel this summer but Glasgow has always been on my list of places to visit - the hotel seems like a fabulous option for accomodation!

  13. Wow. What a find. I wish they had more artistic/ affordable places like this in the US. This will definitely be in my mind when I make my "sometime in the future" trip to Scotland. Glasgow has always been on my list.

I hope you guys had a fun, relaxing trip. It sounds like both of you deserved it after all that work.
