Tomas Alonso's Desk Trays

Rubberised desk trays, we all want one right? Probably not, but if you were in the market for a super cool desk tidying solution I reckon you wouldn't go far wrong with these. Designed by Spanish craftsman Tomas Alonso for stationery experts Praxis, this projects toys with the relationship between squares and circles. I stumbled across Alsono's work online last week, the man has some serious skills and an eye for colour, shapes and materials. For anyone that's been to the Camper shop in Covent Garden in London or the store in Glasgow, he is the man behind the design.

All I need now is a desk like Jen's to put them on.

  1. I like the very first one, the pale colour makes it look like it's made of jelly. Not sure what flavour jelly is that colour though...

Anyway, in case you didn't see my response to your question:

Haha I'm very hairy too... Hmm I'm probably not the best person to ask for shopping advice if you want to keep any of your savings, I'm not very good at thinking of my budget once I'm in a store. My favourites are the classics, Liberty and Browns, but I also love a good rummage around in Dover Street Market (I've found some surprisingly cheap things there too hidden amongst the £10000 hand bags). I have a suspicion you'll like the little stores Lambs Conduit Street (Darkroom is my favourite). I can also recommend Wolf & Badger for interesting menswear pieces by young designers.

  2. I love being square...haha! I actually really like the shape, either in accessories or as strongly architectural as deskstuff

  6. Ohh, they're actually quite amazing. Even though I don't really know how to use the big grey one, but oh well. I love the colours and simplicity.

I actually thought these were like 3D computerised forms before seeing the last one! I can see these sitting on my desk, looking all cool and suaveee...

Haha I'm glad you see the humour. The lecturuers didn't really see much in the drawings, they have that mind frame of 'why draw it? take a picture instead!' so the sculpture was a bit of quick idea, and I thought I'm just gonna roll with it and just as I planned they prefered it to the drawings, seriously if you scrunch up a piece of paper and present it to them and say it's about Global warming they will give you a standing ovation, so I'm sort of glad I've finished university now. Whats wrong with drawing ay! I dunno...

  13. Oh snap, that pencil holder looks dope. And the rubber texture would have me stroking it...which sounds weird, but hopefully you know what I mean!
