Revisiting Saddle Shoes

Wearing - Edwin chambray shirt, Levi's 511s, YMC saddle shoes, Uniqlo socks, COS leather lanyard.

Whilst most of us have been taking advantage of the major sales pre and post Christmas I made a pact with myself. Instead of rushing out to see what bargains I could snap up, I'd take a look through my own wardrobe and see which items I tend to neglect. We all have tones of stuff we don't seem to get round to wearing, either from buying stuff on a whim or saving it for a certain occasion. So my idea was to get out all the stuff that isn't in rotation and get wearing it! Simple as that really, I must have liked something about the item in the first place to buy it. So while money is tight I'll go back to these items, assess if they still work for me and get wearing them, if not then do I really need replace it or can I do without?

Something that falls into this category and certainly doesn't need getting rid of or replacing is these YMC grey and black suede saddle shoes, that I picked up in the 2010 winter sale for 70% off. They're surprisingly easy to wear and go most of the stuff I own.

Don't get me wrong I have bought a few bits and bobs in the sale (namely socks, desert boots and a couple of t shirts) but I will be thinking twice about if I really need something. When I do go shopping I may buy something little but I don't tend to buy a higher price point item just out of the blue. Luckily I enjoy the whole shopping experience so browsing is usually good enough for me. It's all relative really isn't it, while I don't have a full time job then this is that way it has to be.

How did this season's sales work for you?

  1. These are gorgeous shoes and from all the blog posts I've been meeting with saddle shoes being featured, it seems you've got a staple favourite there. We all have things hidden away and forgotten - I think yours is a superb idea....

  2. The shoes look great! do they have a flat sole? if so i think they're perfect! i would have snagged those up quick if i saw they were on sale.

i have plenty of clothes and shoes that i never wear (may never wear again either) but i'm glad i still have them. like you said, i obviously wanted or liked it at some point. lately i've pulled out an old native print vest that i haven't worn in years and incorporated it into the style that i like to have now. it's actually pretty fun pulling out old items you have and trying to get them into your new outfits or style. your creativity runs wild!

I see the socks are on full show, yes! they're a fantastic shade of green I must say. Although now it has reminded me that I would really like a nice pair of green jeans! I really do need to stop impulse buying.

I'm going to sort out my wardrobe too, I have a hell of a lot of stuff to place on ebay, it's just getting round to it. I find the whole process a tad tedious, I'm a bit of a lazy bugger though if I'm honest. I start one thing and then begin another.

The sales were not too shabby for me, I got a few things after it died down. I made a pact to never enter the bull ring on a boxing day after 2010! I remember I couldn't even move properly, we were stepping on toes, a real hassle.

  8. This is such a good idea, I've never actually thought of it like that, so I probably should get round to wearing half the clothes in my wardrobe. Unfortunately, I was tackled by sales and bought new things as well.
    Great blog
