This Week's Essentials - Harris Tweed Blazer

Close up of the colour and texture, green, turquoise and orange wool.
(Please excuse the face) I'm like Chandler Bing when it comes to posing for pictures.
Wearing - Harris Tweed 3-button blazer, Topman chambray shirt, Topman trousers, Ask the Missus suede brogues and Uniqlo pink marl socks

I'm quite lucky when it comes to finding quality items for mega cheap but I thing this has topped the chart. When I saw this Harris Tweed 3-button wooly blazer in a charity shop in Preston I knew I was going to buy it before I tried it on(even if it didn't fit). Then I looked at the label, £3. I tried it on quite skeptically, as second hand blazers are 99.9% ill fitting. To my total surprise it was bang-on.

After a trip to the dry cleaners it was a good as new, the label later revealed it was designed for "Design Circle by John Collier". Anyone heard of this? A quick scan of the net suggests it dates back from the 1960s/70s. I'm so chuffed with it, especially seeing that it's a 3 button style(3 buttons fits my shape better than 1 or 2, even if it is quite old fashioned) and it has  green/turquoise/orange running through it.

Anyone else had any bargains of late?

I love this jacket. Nice shoes too! You know who you remind me of, I just realised? The singer from Chapel Club! That's a compliment btw in case you look him up and go 'wtf', he's a very charismatic frontman, good style too.

No bargains of late, but it does suit you quite well. No pun intended, unless you thought it was a good pun, then I totally meant to. :D

Happy Friday!

Love the fact its a 3 button jacket and glad to see a fellow tweed appreciator, all those colours in one jacket! I think the best bargain I have got recently is... Well I'm not sure where to start haha. Just found a Dries Van Noten skirt for $20 ummm and the £25 Liberty Print shirt was a pretty good deal I thought considering I was still in Liberties. Probably the best deal was a Michael Kors cashmere sweater for $1! Unfortunately its so small (womens) that I am going to re-sell it see what I can get for that.

I've never heard of that guy, but that blazer is snazzy for sure.

No, unfortunately I have the worst luck in finding anything in charity shops! I'm always so jealous to see other people bang such awesome finds and not to even mention that some of these bloggers have such talent that they are able to find designer in a pool of disgusting! Good find Mat, I love tweed in any shape or form! :)

Blimey! It breaks my heart to see Harris Tweed go for so little but it looks like you'll give your bargain blazer a new life.

What a find! Durable and classic tweed, I am truly a fan of the fabric. And you found Harris Tweed even, a real secondhand treasure. The colour and shape suit you perfectly.

The latest secondhand bargain of mine must be a brown woolen coat this winter. I agree, finding blazers and coats secondhand with the right fit is nearly impossible. But when you finally do it's like hitting the lottery.

Oh, this must be my first time commenting here. Hello! (Btw, I found your blog through Style Salvage. Keep up the good work!)

I took things to the charity shop to clear out then bought more when I was there, nightmare!
Love this blazer and it really is a good fit. It reminds me of the bit in The Mighty Boosh when Howard is trying to sell elbow patches...
I got a navy Dior blazer on ebay for £15 once my best bargain to date.

I may have to copy your pink marl socks and gloves in pocket look mat. It's a winner!

Great Harris Tweed jacket and blog! You are correct John Collier was a menswear
supplier during 1960's / 70's. They had a tv jingle " John Collier, John Collier, the window to watch" and were known as the 50 bob tailors.... : )

To be precise John Collier was started in 1958 and eventually the brand was sold to Burton... looking at the cut and style of your jacket I would say its early 60's : )
