Exploring Leeds with Whistles AW16

The city of Leeds is slowly becoming one of my favourite places to visit. It’s got pretty much everything I look for in a day out; coffee spots, local retailers, interesting architecture, a decent brewery with its very own tap room, art galleries, friendly people and the kind of shops I love to spend hours in.

No strangers to the blog, Whistles Men invited myself and lifestyle blogger + now good friend, Jordan Bunker, to visit the Leeds store to pick out some key pieces from the current AW16 collection. Located in one of the most beautiful shopping arcades in the country, the Victorian Quarter, Whistles Men’s Yorkshire outpost always makes it as a firm priority on my to-do list.

As for our clothing choices, it really didn’t take us too long to grab what we needed for a full day of exploring the city. I was acting as the tour guide for the day as it was Jordan’s first proper visit to Leeds.

It was all about freshly brewed coffee at Tall Boys, a heavy helping of independent magazines at Village, and my favourite beer stop at Northern Monk Brewery. A special thanks to Lucy of Northern Monk for letting us set up camp for the afternoon.

For my look I kept things pretty true to my daily uniform; with the Striped Wool Overshirt, layered over the long sleeve chambray shirt, Burnt Orange Merino Wool Jumper. Predictability I chose the Khaki Classic Fit Chinos for my legs, finished off with my staple pair of Converse 70s, navy wool socks and Merino Wool Beanie.

Jordan’s look focused more on modern tailoring, with the Navy Wool Overcoat, chunky knitwear and wool trousers. With it being minus 3 on the day we decided to visit Leeds we sure needed those layers. Nicely played J-man. Head over to Jordan's blog to see more from our Leeds shoot.

Meet the East London Neighbourhood with Whistles

With the first dedicated Whistles Men's store recently opening in East London we thought it would be the perfect opportunity to explore the close-knit community which centres around Boundary Street, Redchurch Street and its surrounding area. Located just off Shoreditch High Street, the new store is just a stone's throw away from some of the city's coolest independent stores, cafes and hangouts.

Along with photographer Jonathan Daniel Pryce aka Garcon Jon, my buddy Oliver Hoosen and the Whistles Men team we headed out around the area to explore some of our favourite hot spots, and get to know Whistles' new neighbours:

Mast Brothers

It was a warm day, and chocolate probably shouldn't have been on high priority, but it's hard not to be drawn in by the perpetual sweet smell of Mast Bro's chocolately goodness. If you wander down Redchurch Street you'll be faced with their warehouse factory-style store, complete with ever-changing window display, coffee bar and daily workshop tours.

Le Labo

Another store in the area which plays loopy with your olfactory system is Le Labo. Their signature and experimental unisex fragrances are all neatly arranged within this dimply lit, Americana-inspired apothecary store. Kitted out with antique dark wooden furniture, heavy steel fixtures and timeless New York sensibilities. Take a peak at their fuctional lab in the back too!

Sonos Studio

This is a place that I've often walked past but never stopped to take a closer look. Sonas Studio is a regular hangout for the Whistles Men staff, serving as the perfect super-chill escape, from the often fast-paced environment of Shoreditch. Sonos Studios provides the perfect open-plan space for freelancers or anyone looking for a break from their stuffy office.

Whistles x Buddy Unisex Collection

Collaborations have been the flavour for quite some time now - and it's easy to see why; often they result in memorable partnership, and desirable collectors' pieces.

This collaboration between the UK's own Whistles and Japan's Buddy is no exception. Bringing together Whistles' clean, crisp style with Buddy's focus on colour, craftsmanship and 'make happy' product design has resulted in this very good looking range. Featuring Japanese-made unisex sneakers, wallets and bags.

Combine this with a lookbook featuring bold colours and a dog or three, and we have a certified winner of a collection. Each item being named after a few of Whistles' resident pooches.
