Outfit | Harry Stedman AW15 in Liverpool

One of the best things about social media is the friends we make, and the relationships that come out of it. I met the gang from Harry Stedman just over a year ago - does anyone remember when they visited us up in Blackpool? - and since then we've kept in touch, and become pretty decent buddies. What started as a working relationship has turned into pints down the local pub, working on small projects, and visiting one of the original cities that the brand takes its main inspiration from. Liverpool.

The Harry Stedman brand is based on, and inspired by a working class hero; a traveller, military hand, labourer and true inspiration - and was created by his son + grandson, Phil + Rick. We visited Harry's hometown of Liverpool (Harry now happily retired in my hometown of Blackpool, Lancashire), to explore some of the places where Harry may have visited as a kid. The AW15 collection takes inspiration from Harry's time spend at the dockyards of the UK, and his time spent working in New York; with Ivy League-influenced varsity jackets + sweats, hard-wearing harrington, deck jackets + smocks, work shirts, and heavy jersey layers.

AW Selection @ Infinities

Parka | Knitwear | Holdall | Knitwear | Shirt | T-Shirt | Wooly Hat | Scarf | Wallet | Trainers

This week's AW Selection comes from UK menswear retailer, Infinities. The store currently holds residence in 11 locations around the country and with this year's sales starting early, it's seeming like a decent time to start planning out some post-Christmas purchases.

As always, I've picked out a few of my favourite items from the store's current collection, sticking to a  muted palette. Sale shopping on the higshtreet is a nightmare, I much prefer to pick up a few bits online, clicking from a comfy chair! The Garbstore camo/leafty Parka is right on the money for blending into the winter weather. It's fully lined with heavy wool, which can be detached. The burnt orange Edwin knit would do just the job nicely underneath. If one piece of knitwear isn't enough then get a second on, this button through knit by Universal Works has a certain old school charm to it. It's probably cold enough to wear it with a finer knit and shirt, I'd go for something like this grey snazzy jungle print Stussy number.

I tend to stick to boots in the winter but the New Balance 996 bridge that gap. They're slightly  awkward looking but I guess that's what's pulling me in. Finishing the whole lot of with this lovely mustard coloured PS wallet and traditional tartan scarf by Lyle & Scott, and we're good to go.

Poler Tracker Anorak Down Jacket

Following on from last week's feature of the Carhartt Parka comes another beaut of a Winter jacket, by "outdoor stuff" specialists, Poler. The Tracker Anorak Down Jacket has been designed with enough room to comfortably fit extra layers underneath, features a side zipper for ease, subtle branding and three front zip compartments; for all your maps and snacking needs.

Poler claim the jacket is so puffy, "it will make the Michelin Man blush", which is what you're wanting from a down jacket. The puffier the better. The jacket itself has a slight protective coating, which can stop bit a slight drizzle but it's main feature is its warmth, using high quality 550 down. It's basically a walking sleeping bag.

The down jacket is proving to be very popular in the shops this AW and it's great to see Poler doing something slightly different with it. The styling makes is perfect for male and female and is currently available in three colours. Also see their Reversible Jacket. Could you handle such an anorak?

Carhartt WIP Parkas @ Ark

The hardworking parka can be found in almost every shop on the high street, the majority of them have the magical ability to soak up any drop of water that you might come across. Carhartt have been creating parkas for as long as I can remember and this season is no exception, with both the Trapper and Anchorage styles being released in time for the prolonged British Winter.

The Trapper aims to take the title as the perfect parka. Using a 5.7oz poly/cotton coated, water repellent fabric outer as a base and a double lining with breathable nylon and full removable replica fur layers. Based on the traditional expedition parka, the Trapper has a storm flat fastening with 2-way zip and press studs, fully fleece lined pockets, waist and hip adjusters and the elbows are reinforced with durable Cordura fabric.

Similar in shape and look to the Trapper, the Anchorage Parka is a stripped back version, which features similar attributes but comes in a 100% nylon outer shell, has an added box pocket on the sleeve and will leave you with enough change to grab one of their wooly hats.

Inventory AW13 Looks

Another set of cracking looks by Inventory Magazine, this time for their AW13 catalogue. Each look uses layers to combat the cold with a mixture of Margaret Howell, Engineered Garments, orSlow, John Smedley, Arc'teryx Veilance and footwear from Red Wing and Tricker's. We're slap bang in the middle of Autumn now, as I write this the hailstone is hitting against the window and brollies are being made redundant due to the insanely windy condition. It does make me wonder why everyone longs for Autumn to arrive. It's ok when you're wrapped up warm, sitting near a fire but once it's upon us it doesn't make for a smooth ride, at least in the UK anyway.

With that being said the colder weather does brings plenty more clothing options. Sure there's still that guy who's too stubborn to stop wearing shorts but for the rest of us it's time to layer up. Harvey Nichols recently got in touch and asked me to pick out some of my favourites bits from their current AW collection:

I tried select a few pieces that would all work together, minus the skateboard of course. This wool Harrington Jacket by Oliver Spencer stood out with its unusual circular pocket detail and would be perfect for layering over the Hentsch Man Knit and royal blue YMC shirt. The Bike Repair Shop trousers make a nice change from denim; thick enough for cooler days, with the added details of the reinforced cord waistband, decent for the daily commute. Sweatshirts are Winter's best friend and you can't go wrong with grey, stick this Norse Projects Stripe T-Shirt underneath and you're set. I'd wear it with the Jet 8 Reversible Jacket (not a brand I'm familiar with), a basic t-shirt and the PS wooly hat. The job's a good'un. I've added in the Katie Eary skateboard deck because it's cool as hell, and whilst I still can't skateboard it would look pretty smashing on my wall.
