Training The Nike Way at Wembley | NFL Combine

Both Mat and I don’t shy away from exercise - Mat’s a keen cyclist and I just completed Tough Mudder - but I wouldn’t say either of us are ‘athletes’. So, when Nike contacted us this week about a trip to Wembley for a training session with players from the NFL and English Premier League, I was intrigued and slightly worried.

Intrigued, as anything Nike do is usually innovative (plus a trip to the national stadium is always an exciting prospect). Worried, as although I know little about NFL, what I have seen looks very physical indeed!

Now before you turn away to read something else, this isn't about sports. Nike's focus is really on training - how to improve your fitness, stamina, movement, and control. It's all stuff that goes towards making you a better athlete; whether you're just a casual runner or a full on gym nut. The athletes and coaches on show at Wembley, really put us through our paces. A trip to the Wembley changing room to get kitted up in Nike Pro Combat gear, football kit, and a pair of Nike Free Trainer 5.0 was followed by a series of drills out in the driving rain. You know, running around cones, jumping through over hurdles, catching footballs, that kind of thing.

We finished with a 40 yard dash - the time I achieved won't be repeated here - and then the best reward of all: dinner.  It was a brilliant, if slightly surreal, way to spend a Tuesday evening. The aches and pains should fade in the next couple of days, the lessons though, I'll definitely take away and apply in my next gym session. - Nik

Vickers Bicycles Celebrates Tour de France

To celebrate the British leg of this year's Tour de France Vickers Bicycles have been working closely with Saville Row tailor Richard James, to create a limited edition Town bike. 2014's Tour de France starts in Leeds, running from Yorkshire to London, before heading over the English Channel, so the two brands put their heads together to create something unique for the occasion. The "Sundown" Town bike has been inspired by Richard James' SS14 collection, specifically their signature single breasted, powder blue suit.

The paintwork of the frame has been digitally sampled directly from the suiting fabric, along with other details including the canvas cotton saddle + bar tape by Brooks England and the subtle use of colour on the spokes. Other noteworthy details are the steam-mounted brass bell and striking acid green inner tubes on the front. Each bike is made to measure in Great Britain.

The Vickers Bicycles Town bike will be on display at the Richard James store on Saville Row, London for the duration of the race - from the Monday June 30th until Sunday 3rd August. For more info visit here.

Jamboree Store x Side Project Skateboards

My new found love of skateboarding and long standing relationship with intriguingly designed products meet head-on, with the release of a set of limited edition boards, by Side Projects for online menswear store Jamboree. This 7-piece collection (one board per design) has been designed in the UK and handmade entirely in the USA by the Houston, Texas-based skateboard team; who specialise in unique, vintage-inspired pieces.

Each board has been handcrafted from start to finish using rich Cherry Maple and Walnut Wood; both chosen for their structural integrity as well as their pleasing aesthetic qualities. Colours and patterns used take inspiration from 60's American Skate + Surf culture, which really does seem like the peak time for exploration and adventure; to have been a kid then hey? I'm determined to teach myself to skate this summer!

The Jamboree x SPS collection will be available 29th May via Jamboree's new "Mercantile" store.

Neal Unger | The 60-Year-Old Skateboarder

My current inspiration - Neal "The Dude" Unger, the 60-year-old skateboarder. I've been wanting to learn for years but in my head it's difficult for a grown man to do so without looking a wally. After watching this beautiful film my initial thoughts couldn't be further from my mind. Screw it. Who's with me?! We can all take a little something away from Unger's words. [source]

The Return of adidas Stan Smith + Weekend Links

Following on from the Limited Edition adidas watch comes The Return of Stan Smith. The classic white tennis shoe - associated with top sports stars as much as they are with groups of youths hanging on street corners. The adidas Stan Smith is probably the only trainer I can remember it being "acceptable" for both school kids and teachers to wear. Click here to see a very charming history of the iconic shoe, told by the man himself.

Press play to hear from the man himself, amounts other well known faces throughout the creative and sport industry. The trainers are set for re-released late Jan 2014. The other plus being they'll cost about £60, a wee bit more affordable than the watch....

I feel like I've had a pretty weird week. Busy every day but not achieving really achieving much. Maybe I'm just stressed about the lack of Christmas presents I've bought. Tonight I'm off to my work's Xmas do, so I'll take it as an excuse to wear a suit. Plans for this weekend guys?

Nike Free Run+

As my royal blue New Balance 420s are now reserved for everyday use I've been on the lookout for a new pair of running trainers for a while. Several tweets and conversations later (thanks mostly to Isabelle and her in depth posts about what to wear when cycling to work) the Nike Free Run's seem to be coming up tops. A couple of my friends give them the thumbs up and apparently Hollie has just bought a bright  purple pair; she's in Florida at the moment and got them in one of the outlets.

I'm looking for something that's lightweight, versatile and good enough for everyday nipping to the shops vibes. The bright colours available doesn't hurt either. Above are the +2 and +3 versions, I reckon I'm swaying towards the black & green and the acid yellow versions.

Is there any other running trainers you guys would recommend or have you any experience with the Free Run? I'm only a light jogger so I'm thinking these would be spot on.

Nike Pre Montreal Racer

I don't think a month goes without me mentioning a pair of trainers on the blog, I can't get enough.  I'm constantly browsing but never really know what I'm looking for, hence why I don't buy many. This pair of Nike Pre Montreal Racer in vintage green (hmm doesn't seem very green to me) caught my eye and are one of my favourites at the moment. It's mostly to do with my love of turquoise and old sportswear and the way they make this 1973 design seem so fresh.

When it comes to trainers I like 'em sporty, I've never been one for the terrace casual styles that Adidas  and Nike do so well with court styles. I prefer them with a mixture of premium suede and nylon/mesh, heavy cushioning and a sportier sole. All in all I do still want maximum comfort, something I can go for a quick jog in if it's called upon. I could forego the vintage treatment on the Racer soul but it does add a certain characteristic that is hard to achieve if you don't have 20 years spare to keep them in your attic.

Are they are trainers that are taking your fancy at the moment?
