Jacket Required SS15 Review

A couple of weeks ago I headed down to the capital to attend the menswear tradeshow, Jacket Required, which was previewing the SS15 season. Last summer was the first time I'd attended the show, and a year on things have certainly grown in scale. They've upgraded their location from Bloomsbury House (see Jacket Required SS14 here + here) to The Truman Brewery on Brick Lane, giving much more space showcase menswear and accessories brands from around the world.

This time I asked Nik to tag along - willing he stepped up with the promise of free beer and great chat.

At first these shows can be slightly overwhelming because of the sheer size of them, so it takes a good 30 minutes to find which was you approach things. It's a great chance for us to discover new brands and chat directly with them about their stories and collection. It's also the perfect excuse to catch up with old friends, all the while checking on trends for SS15.

Overall the quality of the show and brand list has risen significantly, and it was excellent to meet the people behind the brands that I've only spoken to previously via email or Twitter. A few brands which stood out for us included - Dickies, Deus Ex Machina, Lightening Bolt, Human Made, Dobson, SATTA, Hancock, ohw?, Altamont and longtime favourites of Buckets & Spades, Harry Stedman

A really strong showing from new brands on our radar too - Kings of Indigo, Eat Dust, Blue Collar Worker, Giro Sports, '47 Brand, TRIWA....all caught our eye.  We picked up on - indigo dyed t-shirts, overlaid patterns, patchwork, cartoon illustrations, techincal + commuter-friendly fabrics, colours brighter than the sun and heavy dose of sportwear and Americana inspired garments.

It was very encouraging to see more brands who are still in their infancy years, sitting along side established and cult labels at the show, noticeably more than the previous year. We noted down plenty more exciting things down from this year's show and we'll be delving into the list over the next few months.

Thanks for visiting,
Mat
