Record Collection

Between us we have quite a few records. Well, Hollie would claim they're all hers, however I prefer to say we share them. Either way they're all in our possession and ready to be busted out and played on the Crosley at the drop of a hat. Some old, some new, lots borrowed and loads of blues!

Hollie's dad is big into music, he was even a pop star back in the day. So over time he acquired many records and even had the genius idea of actually keeping hold of them! I say genius but you know what I mean, most people got rid once CDs became popular. I'm glad he did as we've ended up with several original records by David Bowie, The Beatles and some Johnny Cash stuff too. I've only been back from London for a few days but I'm already planning on visiting again (before March), for Hello, My Name Is Paul Smith at the Design Museum. There's plenty of London Music Events* going on too.

Anyone else into vinyl or do you have memories of your parents playing them when you were younger?

  2. that is quite a collection! i loved vinyls growing up. my friend had an amazing collection that she got from her parents and her older brothers. we would always be in her room listening to them. i got myself a crosley last december and began a little collection of my own. i love seeing it grow little by little.

  3. Unfortunately for me my mum only has reggae records which I hate but I've kept my dads great Motown and soul collection. I used to buy one 7" single a week in uni so I've built up quite the collection of mid 00's indie and I use ebay to get harder to find things like Felt and McCarthy which I'm really liking at the moment.
If you're ever in Cardiff try Kelly's in the indoor market, loads to browse there.

  4. I wish Beatles records were easier to come by here! There are quite a few on Amazon, but they're so expensive! When my dad was younger, before he became a preacher, he had quite the collection.. but he's so radical he BURNED them all after he found Jesus. I want to cry just thinking about it.

  5. I was bought a record player for my birthday, this month; I'm so glad that I can start listening to the few that I have collected over the past couple of years (Hendrix and Monty Python - I can't wait!)

  6. This is making me depressed, I started my vinyl collection at the age of 11 and built it up until cassettes took over (mid 20's). I lost all of my albums along with two big box's of vintage Rolling Stones magazines (1970's-early 80's) when I got divorced... Long deep sigh... On a positive note, you and Hollie (and Hollies dad) have excellent taste in music! Enjoy them!!!
