Urban Outfitters x Beacons Festival

Skipton in the Yorkshire Dales seems like an unlikely spot for a music festival but last weekend it played host for the second year running to the Beacons Festival. It turns out that being based in the North does have its advantages, as official partners, Urban Outfitters invited us both along as press/ bloggers for the weekend. They decked us out with best camping accommodation imaginable c/o Camping Under The Stars, gave us full backstage access (Yorkshire Tea came standard) and pointed us in the direction of Whitelocks Real Ale tent. Sorted.

Beacons is a boutique Arts & Music festival, tiny in comparison to most others, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in personality and spirit. Around 400 acts over four days headed to this beautiful part of North Yorkshire. With all the musical bases covered as well as comedy, art, whiskey tasting and even early morning yoga classes. We were told hundreds of people turned up at 9am for a good old stretching session! The festival was all about champion new/up-and-coming music and designers, it's the kind of place you're likely to discover new bands; which you will then search for endlessly on Spotify when you get home.

On the Saturday in typical British fashion it didn't just rain, it poured. But to quote Hollie, "You'd have to get trench foot before you put on those wellies." But screw it, we ploughed on, catching 10 minutes of as many bands as possible, following suit in the ale tent. You know you're onto a winner when your over half likes trying out regional ales as much as you do. We caught Dutch Uncles, Temples, Stealing Sheep and Cry Baby Cry, who were all cracking.

Urban Outfitters set up shop with their own tent in the main arena, providing the crowd with loads of comfy sofas, phone chargers, round the clock DJs and even a screen printing service, by Bob Motown (best guy ever) and the Hit & Run crewLaynes Esspresso quickly became the early morning hang out, their Flat White's were unreal and the queues didn't lie. Same goes for Mother Clucker, who don't play by the rules.

We were truly spoilt by UO over the whole weekend, as an experience it has just added to what is turning out to be a pretty amazing Summer. Next week we're heading down south once again, driving down to Brighton for a couple of days via Thorpe Park, for the Bank Holiday. What's everyone else got planned, any festivals on the cards?

Thanks to Urban Outfitters once again for inviting us for the weekend!

Looks like a great atmosphere with plenty to do - never seen a print screen stall at a fest before, I'd have been there in a flash! Nice to see there are still ice-cream men who give out a generous 99 too!

  5. I've never been to a camping sort of festival because camping terrifies me but I reckon I could handle those snazzy tents! Sounds like you had an awesome time.

  11. This looks fantastic and just up my street. You should come and try Swn festival in Cardiff. It's all city based and spread over all the venues in Cardiff. Always the standout weekend of my year in Cardiff and you can explore, take in some live music and hangout one of the best cities in the UK (not biased at all)
