Savannah Photo Diary

Midway through our trip to Orlando we took a 5-hour drive up the coast to Savannah, Georgia. We set off at 7am and it was quite hellish getting there, gridlocked in traffic for 2 hours set our goal of 5 hours back somewhat but it was well worth the wait.

Without a doubt Savannah is one of the most charming, beautiful and interesting places I have ever visited. I knew very little about Savannah before we arrived (Hollie was pretty well versed, she'd been researching for weeks), so we decided to take the Old Town Trolly Tour around the city and lets just say, we were blown away. This place is full of historical relevance so here's a few things we learnt; the Cotton Exchange originally first set worldwide prices, the Girl Scouts was founded here, designed by Englishman James Oglethorpe it was America's first planned city and now one of the countries largest historical sites. Georgia's first bank can be found on Reynolds Sq., one of the cities 24 original squares, the building now houses The Olde Pink House restaurant (above).

The phrase "don't let the bed bugs bite" originates here, it's know that residents used to stuff their mattresses with the bug-ridden Spanish Moss which grows in abundance here, the Forest Gump "box of chocolates" bench scene was filmed here......I really could go on for ages but I'd never stop.

I'm so glad we decided to visit and even though we were only there for a couple of days I really couldn't recommend it more. I'd like to thank the people who emailed and tweeded me suggesting to go to Savannah, good call guys! Oh did I mention the hotel we stayed in on Bay Street was originally one of the first Coca-Cola bottling plants...Ok I shut up now.

Has anyone else been to Savannah, I'd love to hear what you thought of it? Hope you enjoy the photos, if you have any questions about anything please just ask!

It's great when a place can get you really excited! Some interesting facts there too, especially the Forest Gump one as it's a movie I've always loved. definitely seems a place I'd enjoy.

I know, it's been sometime! I've been lacking in energy with blogging, I'm not sure what's going on. Work is going alright too, thanks for asking. Just wish it was more hours than 8, still on the look out for something else to help out!

Hope all is good with you too and best of luck with hitting the wedding goals also!

  14. Shot of the air balloon is magnificent. Love the power lines cutting through it.
How did you like the bus tour?
Seems like you went to a lot of tourist like spots? They all look real cool though.
How was drinking some local Savannah brew?
Judging by the home and bike you'd love it over here in Denver. If you ever come out this way I'd love to show you around, or if not my brother can do so. I think you'd really like it.
Did you check out any boutiques or shops in Florida?
Looks like and reads like you had a really good time. I wouldn't mind taking a trip out there one day.

  15. Savannah seems really nice, I love historical towns! I'd never even thought about visiting before this post though, it's not one of the places my mind jumps to when I think about going to the USA.
