Advertising - Oreo's 100th Birthday

After a few days away in Brigthon I'm finding it a bit tricky to get back into the swing of things, but my spirits were lifted when I came across Oreo's latest ad campaign. I haven't done an Advertising post in a while and seeing that it's something I really do enjoy (and would love to be involved in, I'm very employable!), I thought it would be a good time reintroduce it. Oreo's celebrated their 100th birthday on 6th March and to commemorate the event they took a trip down memory lane. The series of ads looks at key events from the past 100 years and uses the sandwich cookies to display them.

I always think the simple and clever approach to marketing works really well, it's easy to connect to and humor really does go along way. "Damn, what a cool idea" was my first reaction, the next was trying to decide which was my favourite. I think it 1969's Moon landing, genius. Which one do you like best?

  1. That's insane, it's hard to believe that they are 100! I think it's great they are still going and an icon of a biscuit. I love these ad's, my have is the colourful ones and the planet one is pretty groovy :)

Mine has got to be the moon landing too, made me chuckle when I saw it. The whole concept is one of those 'Man, wish I thought of that!'. Clever idea!

Oh no, I'd need a pad lock if I had a chocolate draw in my room!

Genius. Pure genius. I think that the first one - snow white and the seven dwarfs - and the pac man one are brilliant. I love ad campaigns that think outside the box and do something completely unrelated to their product just to get people laughing or to invoke a reaction. Bookmarking this to send to like-minded people - really enjoyed this post Mat!

  9. The peace sign is ace! (I totally stole that saying from you, by the way.)

I'm not a fan of oreos, but it looks like they have their ads done right.

  10. I L-O-V-E this post and adore the ad campaign. I'm a huge freaking Oreo fan and it's so fun to see the brand doing something so clever with their campaign. Definitely agree that simple clever ads are the best.. especially when they make you think, 'why didn't someone do this already?' Simple, clever, witty, funny and engaging... that's what I like in an ad.

p.s. I think the text message one is my favorite... and pacman... and summer of love. ok, it's hard to pick just one!

  11. Woah Oreo is 100 years old?! Love love love this clever form of advertising, it's fun playing "guess what happened?" by just looking at the Oreo alone, I only got pacman. I reallllly love the football one and the imprint for the first man on moon. Mmmm craving oreos and milk now!

  18. These are cool ads, it's only a shame that Oreos taste like garbage!

  19. the color tv ad is by far my most favorite one. this was such a good find and really makes you appreciate advertising for this very reason. i think the cool hunter has some of the most amazing ones ever (i'm sure you've seen this before) but they never get old:

  20. Fantastic ads indeed! These are so inspirational for me, I also work in advertising. So these are surely going into my 'inspirations' folder, thank you for sharing. x

  21. These are clever. Mostly I just want to eat Oreos now though. So good. And Oreo ice cream! Bliss. I think our food interests overlap in terms of diversity and greediness - I want to eat all the different food! I used the New Complete Book of Mexican Cooking for my chimichangas. The book isn't glamorous, no colour or pictures, but I think it is quite accurate/legit and everything turned out really well. Time consuming though. If I make them again I could post you one? An aunt of mine posted a fried egg once but that didn't end well... Definitely try the soup and report back. I can't imagine anyone not loving it but then I do have a peanut butter fetish... x

  22. Yes! You always post the best ad campaigns. I adore the colour TV one, such a simple idea & creative. You can sort of see how much fun they had doing it as well, which is always nice!
