Desert Trekkers

If memory serves me correctly these Clarks Desert Trek were my only significant sale purchase from the Christmas sales. I got them half price and they are worth every penny. I've been wearing Clarks in various form since I was a kid (we all remember the Clarks foot measuring contraption don't we?), they did fall out of favor as a teenager and were no doubt replaced by Adidas and Converse. But since I became a proper adult there hasn't been many month that I haven't worn their desert boots, however I fancied a change and went for the Desert Trek in this rich tan colour.

Comparing them to my Clarks Desert boots I have to say the Trek are overall much comfier, which I'm sure has something to do with extra half inch of crepe sole. I would say their construction is slightly more considered too, with metal eyelets, triple and variable stitching in some places and a reinforced heal in contracting leather. The trekking chap just tops it all off nicely. The Desert Trek was designed in the early '70s and was inspired by styles which could be found in Holland at the time, I can see this too, they have a sort of clogg-like roundness to them. Desert boots are seen as a staple these days but I'd check out the Trek if you're after something a bit different.

Thanks for all the anniversary wishes guys.

  2. I love Clarks, about 60% of my shoes collection are from Clarks, they're well made, comfortable and they last longer.

I'm going to Bicester Village tomorrow, hoping to bag some bargains at their outlet store.

Completely with you on the Clarks front and although I'm still a teenager I'm very much in the Clarks camp! It's a coincidence because my only fruitful January sales purchase last year was a pair of blue suede wedges from Clarks marked down from £60 to £15 an I wear them all the time. This January just gone I bought a pair of high black boots down from £90 to £45 and their faultless. I also have three pairs of brogues from them and my staple summer sandals proudly bear their stamp to. I just don't think it's possible to fault their comfort, quality of pricing. Also, being a girl with slim size 8 feet often presents problem when the shoes are far too wide for my feet but they've introduced a choice of width at Clarks now which is great cause if I order off their website I know that what I'm buying will fit. I have been considering a pair of female desert boots for a while now - perhaps for summer to toughen up floaty dresses.

Thanks for your comment - the levi shirt was definitely one of my best eve charity shop finds. The best ever was a red Austin Reed blazer - brand new, unworn and my size - for £3.50 in my favourite local chairty shop. It was marked down from £7 - I fault fraudulent buying it for so little! The second and third best respectively were two Jaeger cashmere jumpers which I wear all the time. The quality is superb and they wash brilliantly - it just goes to show that you get what you pay for. They were £7 and £3 and I've never regretted buying them! I bet that raffle ticket you found is a great talking point! I often wonder about the lives of the previous owners. If only clothes could talk eh?!

  4. OMGosh, YES! I remember the foot measuring thing they had and I absolutely LOVED it, was I the only one? But the only thing wrong with it was that they would measure my feet accurately and my choice was limited. I remember feeling quite depressed when my parents gave me a total of 5 pair of shoes to choose from and they were all ugly :/ Funnily enough, a friend of mine bought a pair of boots from Clarks recently and suddenly they're on my radar again, they have sufficiently improved imo and the shoes you've shown are further proof.

My flatmate saw this over my shoulder and remarked 'dem trekkers got tekkers'

I might not be quite so eloquent but these are, indeed, quality shoes x

  11. I really like these, and sale is always awesommmmmme. Also wondering how long it will take before I grow tired of Instagram, I've been called a hipster for using it several times and one can only take being called a hipster so many times!
