The Art of Jim Denevan

I stumbled upon Jim Denevan's sand art over at Into Calio and had to share them. The idea of temporary work that can actually last for ever in picture form is pretty though provoking really. Visit his website to see more of his work.

Thank you to everyone for your comments on my last diy post, if any of you do decide to give it a go ourself please let me know, I'll be interested to see how yours have turned out! Hope everyone is having a good nearly-weekend time.

  8. how mad is that !!! Go Jim ! It is always such a joy to see something like this, art that can't be put into a bullshit display (Tate modern London is pissing me off at the mo) or that people can destroy or sale or own ....only a flicker of the art in a picture remains. I love that he has taken it to different places and has really played with it. It's like when you were a kid and you would draw silly things at the beach, but on a whole new level. It's playful and joyful and he is useing nature as a canvas ....does not get better than that. Wicked Matt thanks for sharing :)

How are you ....bet you are not enjoying Sale's? I have been all over the place lately. I have not been on my laptop in ages, I have been trying to sort everything. It's all abit mad, soon it will settle and life will be boring and I can relax :) sometimes boring is good. Plus I need to start planning my sons bday :P very stressed already about it.

What have you been up too? Have a fab weekend x

  10. These are lovely. Land art is something that has always interested me, especially how it tends to have an ephemeral side to it. These remind me of the shapes Donald Urquhart made on the ground by planting flowers, so his art is only there for a short time each year. Obviously these sand ones last an even shorter time than that!

  12. Bloody hell - that is some powerful work!

I also love contemplating the idea of semi-permanent versus permanent art. Something very romantic about a fleeting artistic moment...
