Unoccupied
Some recent photographs from a spare of the moment bit of Urban Exploration. Driving from a country pub yesterday we spotted this little abandoned building in the middle of a field. Sadly I didn't have my SLR on my, just a basic one had to do. The gas station in the first image had a really nice story to it, the pub we visited an a photograph of the staff dating back from 1909. It's fair to say the area is pretty sleepy so it can't get much business nowadays but it was quite a site. As I thought, there is no info on what this building was used for and when it was occupied last.
The area between my town and the next city is like a huge maze, roads connecting to unnamed roads, canals, county pubs and quite a lot of swanky house. You wouldn't think it living in Blackpool but I live 15 minutes from all of this.
I decided to wear my new Peter Jensen Union Jack waterproof jacket as it looked like rain, probably wasn't the most practical option for climbing around derelict spaces.
Great shots, Mat!
ReplyDeleteAlso, that jacket is amazing. How much did it set you back?

I love coming across things like this. When we were driving to the coast last month, we passed thru a ghost town, and the empty gas station's sign was advertising gasoline for 67 cents per gallon. (it's $4 now!)
ReplyDeleteWe have a ton of derelict buildings around here, but alas they are home to heroin addicts, so I am a little wary of going in with my camera!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures, looks like my kinda day out! x
ReplyDeleteThat 1st shot is a classic Mat. I have see a lot of this kind of desolation in shots from America. This is a first from here. Like it a lot. Xxxx
ReplyDeleteI LOVE doing this. I'll never forget the abandoned house I found in Mallorca - just incredible.
ReplyDeletea story around each corner! super cool
ReplyDeletegoing anywhere out of town here is just open road. Still nice, but no stories there. Once in a while I see an abandoned building but never bother stopping. Maybe next time
Cool shots (especially the blacked out ruins), your town sounds like a great place to explore and gotta love an asos bargain! I love stalking stuff there and snatching it when the price goes down really low.
ReplyDeleteEven with a point and shoot these snaps are fab... not surprised you couldn't just drive away. I always think quite fondly of places which time and people forgot! ♥ Claire @ Jazzpad
ReplyDeleteDelicious. I miss urb-exing. I haven't done it in a while. Some of the time I spent at Cane Hill asylum was intense. I used to be on the 28 Days forum..
ReplyDeletegreat post :) the pictures make me wish i lived in a space far away from the city

i love the first shot. it tells as story. as for the dereliction, it makes me sad.
ReplyDeleteThat's what I love about the Island... just a few yards outside of towns you'll find places like these.
ReplyDeletelove the pictures. I always like it when nature takes over abandoned places.
ReplyDeleteYeah.. pretty unoccupied.
ReplyDeleteGreat shots, Mat Buckets!

This place looks so intriguing; I would have loved it as a child! x
ReplyDeleteThese are very beautiful shots! :) I love unoccupied spaces...they seem to be quiet but telling a lot.
ReplyDeleteI decided I should stop scrolling now and write a comment before I start scrolling again. Yours is the kind of blog that demands to be devoured and mostly without no parting words. I have absolutely nothing to say except that your posts are so diverse and nice to read and the pictures just add to the fun. Love it.
