Snow Days

The snow has spread nationwide in the UK and once again, we aren't prepared. Why does this happen every single year? Snow is the norm in the Scandies yet the nation is at grid lock when we get an inch. We haven't had any snow as yet but we have plenty of ice, I found out this morning not to my amusement. I stepped out the house in my Camper shoes and went flying, dashed in for a quick change into my Dr Marten shoes and then off I went.

The problem with Docs for me is, I find them an effort to wear and they don't look so hot with cords(which is my winter trews of choice). I came across these hiking boots-cum-wellies by Native a few weeks ago and they have stuck in my mind ever since. Made from plastic EVA and coming in a nice range of colours and a detachable lining, I think these would make a top choice to combat the chilly weathers but also pretty nifty for summer. Whack a couple of pairs of wool socks on and you're away.

LN-CC have got them. How do you combat the icy cold weather?

Urban Exploration

This one's by me.

For my current uni project I have chosen to research into Urban Exploration, the exploration of abandoned, derelict and unseen places. I've become pretty obsessed with it over the past few weeks and even though it's a relatively underground hobby, I have discovered lots of people in to UE community and some epic images/stories. This places are a photographer/historians dream!

If any of these images take your fancy please visit the first linked site, but I'm warning you, you could waste your whole day looking on there.

The final image is by me, technically I didn't explore any derelict buildings but I did come across some interesting things at the local park, including an old ww2 bunker.

Urban Exploration is a very personal thing, you are seeing a glimpse into the past, feeling the hope of what once was and what it turned into. It is also a very real way of connecting to your town or cities past, which some people will never get to see. Does that make sense, what do you guys think about these images?

Mjolk Spring/Sumer 2011 Collection

Ah that's nice isn't it, when something pops up in your inbox that actually catches you attention. Even though I started this blog menswear I don't think I would really class it as that these days? Any thoughts on this, what would you call it? But anyways, here's a bit of menswear, this is the Spring/Summer offering from Mjolk. It's very to my taste and if money wasn't an option I'd be all over the red 3/4 sleeved red mac and the patterned shirts.

I've been bad replying to all your comments of late but I'm getting there. Same old excuse, uni work. I'll be very glad when it's all over.

Clocks

Cronotime Clock by Pio Manzu for Alessi (Originally designed 1966)

Optic Alarm Clock by Joe Colombus for Alessi (Originally designed 1970)

I'm after a new clock for Christmas, just a few ideas here. On the practicality front I should really get a desk clock, if I sorted my new room out I could have a walk clock, so I guess it doesn't help to look at both options.

All these beauties are available at Utility, which is "THE best design shop around", quote by me.

If you only do one thing today please take the time out to think about all the people that lost their lives.

Freunde von Freunden's Interviews

I came across Freunde von Freunden's site only yesterday on Yes Please Mademoiselle when I was having a break from my ever increasing work load. It probably wasn't the best idea, as I was left browesing the site for a few hours, all the people featured live in wonderfully designed and colourful places around Germany, mostly Berlin. The photographer visits normal people in various creative industries, takes photos in their natural state and grabs an interview for good measure. I can't speak German which is a bit of a shame but we can all still enjoy the pictures right, just image you're back at nursery again.

Visit the site to see loads and loads for wonderful images. All images by Freunde von Freunden.

Also, I have been included in Equip's The Big List of Men’s Fashion Blogs

Really Busy This week

....I'm swamped with uni work. Currently doing a project where you have to launch a fashion item for a non-fashion based tv programme. So I chose to do a range of weekend bags for QI and my retailer is Paul Smith. The bag with have many compartments for your Quite Interesting things. He is my 60& complete window display that I've been designing. Basically, half of my life at the mo is spent on Illustrator.

So if there is a lack of posts, this is the reason. Thanks for everyones recent comments, they really do cheer my gloomy days up.
